The Sisters of Charity commenced their role as a provider of residential aged care and retirement services in Queensland in 1977 with the opening of the Marycrest Retirement Centre and the Lillian Cooper Nursing Home, collocated with Mt Olivet Hospital at Kangaroo Point. Following this commencement Mt Olivet's expansion into this sector has been to see it become one of Queensland's largest Catholic not-for-profit service providers of aged and retirement care. Its growth in this regard coupled with its strategic goal of expanding further into this sector saw Mt Olivet's current programme of aged care and retirement services segment away from Mt Olivet Hospital in 2005, thereby becoming a separate management stream.
